According to the objectives of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Machine Industry (JSPMI), the Technical Research Institute (TRI) performs various research projects and service activities for the advancement of machine industry on the basis of its well developed technology and modern facilities. |
The activities of TRI are summarized in the following three areas: |
(1) Research on advanced technology of common interest |
Various research projects are tackled by TRI for solving problems of common interests in the machine industry. TRI's own research programs include topics which are required from industries, and are oriented to the practical applications. It also undertakes contract research with an individual firm and collaborative studies with group of industries. |
(2) Technical services |
Strong emphasis is placed on the services of machining, precision geometrical measurement, material testing and analysis to respond to the requests from industries. There are also rent-use services of its modern facilities including advanced machine tools, environmental test chambers and etc. |
(3) Information services |
TRI collects and studies the most up-dated technical information in the field of machining operations, analyses their contents and disseminates them to the related industries. |
The above activities are performed in close cooperation with related governmental and academic organizations, industries and overseas institutes. For the beneficial utilization of TRI services, a special membership system has been provided for individual firms and associations (the number of members for the 1999 fiscal year is 75). |
