1.Study on Manufacturing System using Open Oriented Information Technologies |
Manufacturing systems that can be adapted to the fluctuations of the number of orders and the kind of the products for smaller enterprises are required. These systems are based on the premise that manufacturing products in small quantities by manual operations is done in the daytime and large quantities are manufactured at night using automated systems. But, recent sharp fluctuations in the number of orders make the continuation of the present way of manufacturing difficult. On the other hand, open oriented information technologies such as the Internet and open controllers are available for offices and large-scale manufacturing systems today. Therefore, this research discusses a manufacturing system, which takes into consideration manual-operated processes coexisting with automated processes for smaller enterprises. This becomes possible by using the open oriented information technologies. |

2. Studies for the improvement of machine tool precision |
2.1 Accuracy enhancement of parallel-link machine tools |
A few years ago, a number of machine tool manufactures have adopted the parallel-link mechanism as a new direction for machine tool development. The many error analyses available for conventional multi-axis tools, however, are not completely applicable to parallel-link machine tools. Therefore, this study presents the foundation for error analysis and accuracy enhancement of parallel-link machine tools. |

2.2 Studies for the realization of the nano-manufacturing technology |
It is required in ultraprecision machining that the each basic component of the machine tool is developed to the utmost limit. Advanced skills are needed for the realization ultraprecision machining. Two studies have been done concerning the behavior of the moving element of machine tools. This area is one of the basic problems influencing machining accuracy in these studies. The first is study for the measuring and repression of the rotation fluctuation of the spindle. The second shows the influence of the each element on the straight feed mechanism. |

3. Studies on improvement of highly accurate measurement standards |
The calibration system and traceability are required world-widely. These establishment enable results to be compared nationally and internationally. This year, roughness standard specimen are selected. The best way of measuring procedures and measurement uncertainty on the roughness measurement field are pursued. |

4. Study on new technology |
4.1 Material Processing Data Base Systems (Material Processing Data File) |
We shall collect the high-quality data and the greater number of data for the Material Processing Data File which provides information in the whole range of material removal processing technology. We shall edit the new version of the Material Processing Data File for Machining. We shall achieve a shift from paper-based files to electronic information files, shall also aim at realizing highly advanced electronic Material Processing Data File. In order to promote wide use of the Material Processing Data File more actively, we shall hold our events which provide our user with in-depth, how-to information on optimizing our data files, and shall also attend the other events. |

4.2 Study on water hydraulic systems |
It's required to use environmentally friendly hydraulic systems these days. To develop on water hydraulic vane pomp as a power source, the assessment of materials and surface treatment for tap water as water hydraulic systems is essential to solve wear resistance, improvement of fatigue limit and cavitation erosion. |
